Baptism

After discussion with the Dean, baptism preparation meetings are suspended and dates for new baptisms are not being taken until we have more information on Fr Patsy’s return or the appointment of a new parish priest.

Given the above, if you want, you can collect and return completed baptism application forms at weekend Mass. Do not include a donation currently.

Baptism preparation meetings are held for the children to be baptised and parents, guardians or carers. Attendance at the preparation meetings is a prerequisite to having your child baptised at Holy Name or St Philomena. A date for baptism is agreed at the conclusion of the baptism preparation meetings.

The recent baptism preparation meetings have now finished. When new baptism preparation meetings start the details will be announced in the newsletter, parish website and Facebook page. We will not be contacting people individually.

Baptisms generally take place on the 1st Saturday of the month at 11.00 am at Our Lady & St Philomena, and on a Saturday at 11.00 am at Holy Name (not 1st Saturday of the month) or after Mass on a Sunday at 12.30 pm.

We are often asked what the children should wear. Smart clothes are appropriate, this does not have to be a suit or dress.

You should have a white garment, for example a shawl, available for the baptism. If you don’t have one, the church does have some to use on the day.
